Financial Aid

FAFSA opens October 1st

Regardless of the pathway you choose, obtaining additional education and training after high school is absolutely affordable.

The first step is to complete the FAFSA, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Many students are eligible to receive Pell Grants, money provided by the U.S. government to students who need assistance for tuition for college or technical or trade school learning. Every year you are offered up to a maximum amount of financial aid that increases as you progress through your program. You do NOT have to repay a Pell Grant. These grants are limited to students with financial need who have not yet earned their first bachelor’s degree or who choose certain certificate or associate degree programs. Follow the link below for more information and guides about completing your FAFSA.

Do you need to use your FAFSA after you apply?
- No

You do not need to use your FAFSA after you apply and there are no penalties.

Do you need to use your FAFSA for college?
- No

A FAFSA can be used for career/technical, a certification or post-secondary education.

Why does the FAFSA have an open date?

The FAFSA is on a first-come first-serve basis when distributing funds, so the earlier you can complete the FAFSA the more aid you may receive.

Can I use other financial aid with the FAFSA
- Yes

It is encouraged to apply for other forms of financial aid, such as scholarships, to maximize your budget for education.

How long will it take for my FAFSA to process?

The FAFSA will take 1-3 days to process until it is sent out to you and your choice schools.

What happens after my FAFSA is processed?

The FAFSA you filled out will be sent to the schools you listed on the application. The schools in turn will send you an aid offer to let you know how much financial aid you can receive from their institution.

Does the FAFSA give me all the grants, scholarships, and loans available to me?
- No

There are grants, scholarships, and loans outside of what FAFSA offers you. You can apply for other financial aid – such as the ones listed above – through your college, the state, or independent providers.

Where can I find scholarships and grants outside of the FAFSA?

Scholarship Hubs:

Government & Federal Grants:

For other options, look for other scholarships and grants with your individual schools of choice.
